Short description​

Immerse yourself in a once-in-a-lifetime out-of-this-world Bedouin adventure with our Wadi Rum Nomads explorer tour and make desert memories for life! On the first day, we explore, hike, climb, scramble, and marvel at ten popular sites in the central part of the protected area. On the second day, we go to the captivating southeastern region, where we will embark on an exciting hike and scramble on Jabal Al-Hash and discover other enchanting sites. On the third day, we go off the beaten track to hike in canyons and wadis in the lesser-known and more pristine southern part and visit other fascinating sites. On the fourth day, we will drive to Jabal Burdah to scramble all the way up to the rock bridge and hike in the famous Barrah canyon. Every day we have traditional Bedouin lunches. And we will catch the sunset in Um Sabatah before retiring for the night at our camp or ‘cave’. You will relish customary Bedouin dinners and have the chance to stargaze before calling it a night. The final morning, after breakfast, we will return to our office in Rum village.

Important to know

  • scrambling the Burdah rock bridge requires fitness and a sense of adventure. And if you struggle with balance or fear heights, this tour is unfit for you.

Day 1 - Meeting point and start time

We will meet up at our office in Rum village for the check-in at 9.30 AM. We will have some delicious Bedouin tea and chat about our plans for the day and night. Once we finish the check-in, you will have a little bit of time for any final preparations. At 10 AM, we will set out into the stunning desert landscape for a day full of adventures.

Day 1 - In the morning

We begin our journey with a visit to Lawrence spring, a natural spring located halfway up a mountain. From this vantage point, you will be able to take in the awe-inspiring views of Wadi Rum. Next, we will venture to the nearby red dune, where you can climb to new heights and soak in even more stunning scenery. You might even feel the rush of excitement as you run down this magnificent sand formation. Our next stop is the renowned Khazali canyon, home to a unique collection of ancient inscriptions and refreshing waterholes. After a short drive, we will arrive at Little bridge, the first of three splendid rock bridges we will visit throughout the day. We will climb the bridge and marvel at the breathtaking views of the surrounding valley before continuing to our final morning destination, the legendary Lawrence House.

Day 1 - Lunchtime

We venture further into the desert until we reach a tranquil and picturesque spot where we pause for a lunch break. Your guide prepares a freshly made Bedouin lunch right before our eyes. After the meal, you can rest or stroll to explore the surroundings at your own pace

During the winter season, our daylight hours are limited, which means we will continue our journey right after lunch. Conversely, we have a prolonged break in the summer season to avoid the scorching midday heat.

Day 1 - In the afternoon

We will begin our afternoon with a scenic drive to Mushroom rock. After a short stop, we will continue our journey through the yellow desert until we reach the Burdah rock bridge viewpoint. We will take time to appreciate the magnificent rock bridge and surrounding desert landscape there. Afterward, we will make our way to the narrow and surprisingly green Abu Khashaba canyon. You will enjoy a delightful walk through the canyon, which typically takes about 30-45 minutes. As this is a walking-only canyon, your guide will drive around the mountain and meet you on the other side of the canyon. We will then make our way to the Um Fruth rock bridge, where you can challenge yourself with a short and exhilarating scramble to the top. As the sun begins to set, we will make our way to Um Sabbath to witness the breathtaking sunset.

Day 1 - The overnight stay

We offer three choices for your overnight accommodation: a tent at our camp, outdoor sleeping near our camp, or outdoor sleeping at our ‘cave’. Visit our accommodations page to find detailed information for each option.

After the sun sets, we will take you to our camp or ‘cave’. At the campsite, you will get a brief introduction to the camp’s layout and operations, and we will show you to your tent or the outdoor sleeping area near the camp. At the ‘cave’, everything is clear and easy to understand.

At both the camp and ‘cave’, we serve a traditional Bedouin dinner. After dinner, you are free to do what you please. Usually, our guests and guides sit together, and you can learn about Bedouin life, chat with others, or just marvel at the billions of stars and enjoy the peaceful desert silence.

Day 2 - In the morning

Whether you are staying at our campsite or at our ‘cave’, witnessing the sunrise is truly a remarkable experience. Feel free to inquire about places to view the sunrise and its timings. We are always happy to assist you. At 7 AM, breakfast will be served, and you will have time to prepare for your second day.

In the morning, we will take a delightful scenic drive through the desert to reach Jabal Al-Hash, a mountain located near the Saudi Arabia border. The rest of the morning will be spent hiking and scrambling on Jabal Al-Hash. The Bedouin trail will lead us to a ridge, and along the way, we take part in a fossil hunt, and your guide can share some information about medicinal plants. Once we reach the ridge, the breathtaking views of the south of Wadi Rum will be our reward. We will head back to the jeep before the morning ends.

Day 2 - Lunchtime

We venture until we reach another tranquil and picturesque spot, where we pause for a lunch break. Your guide prepares a freshly made Bedouin lunch. After the meal, you can rest or stroll to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

During the winter season, our daylight hours are limited, which means we will continue our journey right after lunch. Conversely, we have a prolonged break in the summer season to avoid the scorching midday heat.

Day 2 - In the afternoon

In the afternoon, we will set out on another picturesque drive through the south of Wadi Rum. Our first destination is a Bedouin dam where your guide will show you how we construct dams to collect and preserve water for the dry season. We then proceeded to Um al-Samn to marvel at the beauty of ‘the eye’, an extraordinary rock bridge. If you feel up to it, you can climb the bridge and further up the mountain for awe-inspiring desert views. Then we head to another beautifully shaped rock, Cow rock. Some call this rock Chicken rock. We wonder which name resonates with you more. As the sun begins to set, we will make our way to Um Sabatah to witness another incredible sunset.

Day 2 - The overnight stay

We offer two choices for your second overnight accommodation: a tent at our camp or outdoor sleeping near our camp.

After the sun sets, we will take you to our camp. If this is your first night at our camp, you will get a brief introduction to the camp’s layout and operations, and we will show you to your tent or the outdoor sleeping area near the camp.

We serve a traditional Bedouin dinner. And after dinner, you are free to do what you please.

Day 3 - In the morning

This morning you have another chance to witness the magnificent sunrise. At 7 AM, breakfast will be served, and you will have time to prepare for your third day.  

In the morning, we will take a scenic jeep ride from our office to Um Mugur, passing through the beautiful red desert. Keep your camera ready to capture the stunning views. In the Um Mugur area, you will enjoy a delightful walk and scramble through a yellow sand canyon, which typically takes about 30-45 minutes. This canyon offers the opportunity to see various types of desert vegetation. As this is a walking-only canyon, your guide will drive around the mountain and meet you on the other side of the canyon. Afterward, we will continue our journey to Wadi Nuqra, where you can enjoy another hike. Your guide will drive to the end of the wadi and wait for you there. Enjoy climbing the dune, discovering the beauty of this part of our stunning desert, and marveling at the breathtaking scenery before we head toward Wadi Sabet.

Day 3 - Lunchtime

We venture further until we reach another tranquil and picturesque spot, where we pause for a lunch break. Your guide prepares a freshly made Bedouin lunch. After the meal, you can rest or stroll to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

During the winter season, our daylight hours are limited, which means we will continue our journey right after lunch. Conversely, we have a prolonged break in the summer season to avoid the scorching midday heat.

Day 3 - In the afternoon

In the afternoon, we will set out on a scenic drive to one of the most stunning viewpoints in Wadi Sabet. As we walk to a ridge, we discover old Bedouin storage places and take in the exquisite views over the wadi. Then we will head to Um Ghadah, where you can stretch your legs and embark on a hike through the canyon. While you traverse the canyon, your guide will drive to the end to wait for you there. Next, we will continue to Double bridge and marvel at its beauty. As the sun begins to set, we will make our way to Um Sabatah to witness another incredible sunset.

Day 3 - The overnight stay

We offer two choices for your third overnight accommodation: a tent at our camp or outdoor sleeping near our camp.

After sunset, we will return to our camp for another traditional Bedouin dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4 - In the morning

This morning you have once again the chance to witness the magnificent sunrise. At 7 AM, breakfast will be served, and you will have time to prepare for your third day. 

In the morning, we drive through the beautiful desert to the north side of Jabal Burdah. Our main activity for the morning is to scramble up the Burdah rock bridge. While the climb itself is not terribly challenging, some parts may require the use of your hands due to steep inclines. The most difficult part is located near the bridge. Along the way, you will already be rewarded with amazing views. And once we reach the rock bridge, you will be rewarded with breathtaking and unparalleled views of the central part of Wadi Rum. Take time to take in the beauty of it all before we make our way back down to the jeep.

Day 4 - Lunchtime

We venture until we reach another tranquil and picturesque spot, where we pause for a lunch break. Your guide prepares a freshly made Bedouin lunch. After the meal, you can rest or stroll to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

During the winter season, our daylight hours are limited, which means we will continue our journey right after lunch. Conversely, we have a prolonged break in the summer season to avoid the scorching midday heat.

Day 4 - In the afternoon

In the afternoon, we will begin by visiting a Roman dam that was constructed to conserve water for the dry months. Afterward, you will embark on a hike through the awe-inspiring Barrah canyon, which is renowned for its diverse and stunning nature and breathtaking rock formations. You may find that the hike feels too brief, given the variety of the canyon. As the sun begins to set, we will make our way through the vibrant yellow and red desert to Um Sabatah to witness another incredible sunset.

Day 4 - The overnight stay

We offer two choices for your fourth overnight accommodation: a tent at our camp or outdoor sleeping near our camp.

After sunset, we will return to our camp for one more traditional Bedouin dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5 - In the morning

Make sure not to miss the final chance to witness the magnificent sunrise today, especially if you could not catch it earlier. Breakfast is served at 7 AM, after which we pack up and head back to Rum village. You will arrive at our office between 8 and 8.30 AM for check-out. We bid you farewell and wish you a safe journey ahead.

The perfect organization and good communication, which we had noticed positively in advance, was confirmed again during the stay. The camp is very nice and quiet. We stayed with Wadi Rum Nomads for the 4D4N trip - and it was the best experience we had over our 2.5 week trip in Jordan and one of the best experiences of our lives. I would highly recommend staying longer than the typical 1 day jeep tour in Wadi Rum and doing a longer stay - two, three, or four days. Every day, we did some hiking, scrambling and climbing (not too strenuous) - the climbing was a challenge (my mum who is 63 years old hasn't done any climbing before), but we felt safe the whole time and had a great sense of accomplishment at the end. We learned a lot about the Bedouin lifestyle. We really managed to slow down and enjoy the time in the desert with the guides and with fellow travelers. We also had some great experiences seeing camels 'in the wild'. The food was also the best we had in Jordan - extremely fresh and we were catered to well as vegans - this wasn't an issue at all. Even though we stayed for four days, we felt like we had variety across the days with food. Accommodation is clean and tidy. We slept outside for the first night close to the camp - definitely add this to your experience; you get the feeling of being outdoors and in nature, but are only 40m from the comforts of toilets or the communal tent if you need to come in and sleep! The tour is very well organized and felt like the right pace, with a good amount of sights covered but still time to relax. The evenings were also fun, with good conversation in the communal tent (and occasionally some dancing/singing!) We would particularly like to note the kindness, openness and humor of the guides - they really made our trip! Special thanks to Mohammad, Nawaf, Hamid, Ali, Fawaz, and Bianca for a wonderful experience.
